Second Multicultural Novel Essay
By: Rachel
The poems and essays in “Rising Voices” are written by Native American descendants in elementary school, middle school and high school. There are many poems and essays portraying hope and/or what an Indian should be like. A lot of these descendants who wrote these poems and essays are writing about hope for their people.
One of the poems that portrayed hope at the ending of the poem is called We Shall Wait Forever by Darlene Sinyella, a Hualapi Indian. The line that got me was the very last line. It said “Until then we shall wait in peace and harmony.” To me it says that we will wait and hope for our land but we will wait in peace with no wars or fighting.
There are many more poems, but the one that I think was very good and had a lot of hope in it along with sadness is Longing by Renae Kemp a Choctaw-Chickasaw Indian. “My soul longs to be free, to be free as an eagle that soars the sky.” To me that line is saying that she wants to be free but isn’t, but she hopes that one day she just might be free.
As I Walk Along the Hillside by Misty Strands a Northern Cheyenne Indian. It says in the very end “And as I walk along the hillside I feel all these things inside me, helping me to be who I am.” I think that that means that she wants to be someone and that her ancestors were watching over her and that she has a hope to be somone.
Many of these poems and essays do portray hope and I hope that you see that from what I have. “Rising Voices” is written by many young aspiring authors who live on reservations or near one. Many of these authors go to the reservation schools. I hope that you will now read the book because of my essay.

I don’t think that the animals are going to rebel partially because they aren’t the smartest animals and they don’t realize that Napoleon is keeping everything for himself, and not giving much to the other animals.

Blog-on 5.12.08

I have added to the global conversation by introducing new ways to govern from my utopia. I would hope that people would be talking about it. Also my stories that I write (the TIME stories), I would also hope that people want more of, (which I will get back to).

I would want my utopia to be known for it’s non-racial ideas, because we are very non-racial.

Denver

April 30th, 2008

Denver was built where it is because it was right in between the silver trade and the prairie’s crops, and because of the climate, weather, and sunshine.

Denver keeps growing because of their climate, sunshine, weather, the view, the fact that the mountains block out a lot of bad weather from Denver.

Utopia Wiki Review

March 25th, 2008

I reviewed Anna’s utopia. It was very good. I liked that many different kinds of activities are available. I also liked the amount of respect that you recieve while visiting or while residing there. I liked that there are very few marriage problems (unlike the U.S). One thing that i might change would be the “dream box” because it doesn’t make much sense to me. Another thing that I might change would be having another activity like instruments or choir.Â

Zoo Blog 3.24.08

March 24th, 2008

I think that zoo’s are good but are also bad. They are good because they prolong an animals life (usually). They are bad because they can’t send the animals back to the wild if they are large omnivores/predators, so they can’t help the tigers except for sending money to reservations. It would make sense for more of the money to go to conservation but not all of it because they also need to make good exhibits for the animals to promote more money to come in to go towards conservation.
