What is intelligence?

August 14th, 2008

What is intelligence? Intelligence, as defined by the dictionary is, a “capacity for learning, reasoning, and understanding.” Is this really all there is to be intelligent? I believe that a person is only intelligent if he/she can take this knowledge and put it back out for the rest of the world, just like a teacher. In my opinion, teachers are intelligent because of what they do. They take information they have learned and teach it to the next generation.  Another example of this is Thomas Edison, one of the most prodigious inventors of all time. Thomas Edison was an intelligent man because he not only invented the light bulb he shared his invention with the rest of the world. That is what sets an intelligent person apart, sharing wisdom to expand the world to new horizons and better the future. Being smart is a great quality but giving back is the most important aspect of all.
